Circus Fun!

For our Five in a Row unit study this week, our studies are based upon Andy and the Circus by Ellis Credle. Through this wonderful book, the children were inspired to put on their own impromptu circus, using our swingset in the back yard as the circus ring!
(Please forgive the image quality as it was beginning to get dark.)

The first thing they did was to make lemonade and set up the area for the audience to sit in. Mom and Dad were asked to each bring a Care Bear to sit with us in the audience. Elizabeth even made tickets for them to sell to us from the ticket booth.
Here are the kids in their circus costumes.Having Michael to be a clown was Elizabeth's idea. She brought her red shirt for him to wear, and I came up with the rest of the costume for them. (Those pinwheels are actually a part of his clown hat, and the "suspenders" are actually belts.) We think he is adorable!

Next, we had a frog-jumping contest (just like in the book). They really enjoyed this part!

Here is Elizabeth doing a circus trick. (I love the look on her face here!)
Here is Katie, the amazing trapeze artist, doing an act of remarkable daring and courage!

Clowning around...
We think Michael's reaction (near the end) is kind of funny. (Somehow, I don't think he agrees.)

Every clown needs a clown car!
Clown to the rescue!

Our clown hero after he saved our Care Bear from a "burning building."
Here is our mighty hunter, the fierce wild cat that no one has ever been able to tame before! Matt found a mouse in Michael's room and we found the cat to take care of this problem. A split second before this picture was taken, Matt had been holding the mouse by the tail. The cat quickly grabbed the mouse before I could take the picture. Note the look of surprise on Matt's face!
Here is Elizabeth practicing the ring toss, in preparation for the fierce wild cat!
The wild cat is tamed & taught to do circus tricks, at last!
Elizabeth announces the final stupendous act!

Here is the grand finale, in which everyone walked on the high wires!

Here are Michael's final thoughts on the circus! Thanks for stopping by!
